  1. i am a 40 year old fed up lady and have taken bisoprolol for 3 years due to supraventricular tacchycardia. The tablet lowers my heart rate mostly but also gives me bradacardia and a heart rate of 30+ bpm. some times my heart still goes uncontrolably fast and i have been admitted to hospital for this. i am awaiting my 2nd EP study as the first didnt work but feel scared as i have a high probability of needing a pacemaker. the cardiologists also dont want me to have a pacemaker as it is irreversable and i am quite young. i have tried different meds but this seems the best so far though i cant take the side effects any more. there is a high chance my tacchycardia is postural so nothing is working for me. i am only taking 2.5mg as i cant tolerate more.:yikes:

  2. Hey there

Just came across your post and thought I would reply to let you know I have been in the exact same situation. I have had SVT since I was 17 and had a hellish time with it, I had two ablations and following this I still got SVT. My consultant then put me on bisopralol and this lowered my heart rate amongst other things ( I have tried around 7-10 different medications). When changing my medication I also got av block which meant my heart was not beating properly and was sitting extremely low 30bpm, so not only did I have a condition that made my heart race, I also had a condition that slowed my heart rate and made it beat irregulary. Due to this I was fitted with a pacemaker in Aug 08 and I was only 22 at the time so as you can imagine the cardiology team were unsure whether this was the best route of treatment for me. Due to this I got a second opinion from a different cardiologist based in Edinburgh who informed me I should have had the pacemaker fitted a lot sooner.

Apart from a few set backs I haven't had any issues and have been able to live a better fuller lifestyle than when I had before the pacemaker was fitted. Hope this helps ease any worries you have.

  3. I have history of SVT was prescibed propranolol years ago but as heart rate low I stopped taking. Just recently another cardiologist recommended low dose propranolol After reading your experience think had better refuse. On imdure slow release at moment for angina. On whole ok . It might be OK for blood presure but doesnt appear to be successful for SVT unless very serious. Age 76 so not really concerned but reluctant to start fresh medication.Big concern for you
