Hodgkin's Lymphoma

  1. I had a stell cell transplant in 2002 to treat my advance stage hodgkin's lymphoma which had returned after radiotherapy and chemotherapy. I had periods of remission ranging from 2 to 8 years. The high dose chemotherapy initially went well but I soon felt sick and needed some blood transusions to keep be going. The transplant itself was hard, i was extremly tired and could do little for myself. I spent most of the day sleeping and needed morphine to help with the pain. When i had the stell cells back via a drip i was extremly anxious, it took days for the cells to start appearing in my blood. Once they started working i slowly began to feel better, my mouth and throat healed and i was overjoyed to be able to have some soup. Being allowed to go home was an emotional experience. Although the treatment was something i would hope i never have to go through again i am now in remission and doing incredibly well. If this is recommend as a treatment go for it! Without it i wouldn't be here. It is difficult and emotionally draining but the result far outways this.

  2. Hi!! my father has non hodgkins lyphoma and needs a stem cell transplant after many failed treatments!! He has been told today his stem cells are no good and would be better for him to have a doner!! Did you use your owns stem cells(harvested) or a doner? my dad is very low at the moment and very anxious about it all!!

I am so very pleased that you responded well to your transplant and i hope you are still doing well!! Take care andrea x
