  1. Hi my dad was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukeamia two years ago, he had chemo and went into remission for 10 months. It has since re-occured last July and we were told in September that he has about twelve months to live. He is 66 so they can do nothing else but give him regular blood transfusions; he has 6 units on average per month. I feel useless because there is nothing that I can do. Is there any one else in a similiar position? I would like to hear from them.

  2. Hi

My husband was diagnosed nearly 2 years ago with myelodysplasia he is now 62 and still working albiet 4 days aweek now. He started on the EPO injections for about 6 months but no improvment so is on blood transfusions every 3 weeks either 2or 3 units depending on his blood count at the time. He was having them every 4 weeks but getting angina like symptoms due to his blood count being so low.

I have a full time job myself but since the last appointment with the consultant when Mike was told about life expectancy, I am now off work with stress induced depression. I do have a very caring and supportive family but the thought of being on my own is a very worring prospect.

I dont know how to cope and put things in perspective I used to be the person everyone else came to for support.
