help!whats going on!?

  1. hey smile

after a nice wee holiday i was experiencing severe pain just at the bottom of my back , couldnt move and was really sick , i got an emergency appointment and went straight to the doctors fearing i caught something abroad. The doctor told me i had a pilonidal sinus and the sickness was due to the infection, he refered me straight to hospital and i had the surgery done that day! it came as a shock because iv never had any bother with any thing like this before or any pain im a 21 yr old girl and have none of the list of causes...maybe it was sweating from the holiday heat? they didnt really explain much.i was told it was the size of a golf ball :l i had it cut out and was left with an open wound, not pleasant at al and reali embarrasingsad !!!!it was a complete nightmare at the start but now im getting used to it.i take a salt bath everyday and have the wound packed with aquacell and dressed at my doctors everyday , i go to them on weekdays and they come to my home on weekends. its been about 12 weeks now and the nurse has told me that its just stopped healing and was a worry , the opening of the wound seems to have healed faster and is now smaller than the tunnel inside, the pain is also worsening , there was always puss and blood coming from it but now theres lots more bood.they examined the wound and couldnt find visible signs of infection so she carried out a swap test and im waiting on results .has anyone else has this experience? does it always come back? whats going on ? sad sad sad

  2. My son suffered terribley with this. He was told to avoid baths, best to keep it dry as poss. He had the wound packed every day with aquacell AG. He then had the op but the surgeon stitched it up and the healing process failed so after a second op it was left open and they used vac therapy.....fantastic...hard work to keep it viable as it works on keeping a pressurised seal on the wound which of course is in a difficult area. He also took vitamin E and zinc to aid good healing. It worked a treat and thankfully that was 2 years ago. So far so good. Good luck!
