I recently went on holiday to Hawaii and had my first Gout attack. During the flight to New York I started getting sevre pains in my left toe. I thought that I had stubbed it at some stage. It was almost 24 hours of unbeleivable pain before I got to a doctor in Honolulu. After some questions he diagnosed Gout. He gave me a 'cortesone (think that's how you spell it) injection and some anti inflamitary tablets. The pain went within the hour and never came back, until the return journey, when I started to get pains in my right knee. My GP put me on a course of Brufin which done the trick. I keep getting a 'stabbing' sensation on my big toe. Is this the first sign of an attack or just paranoia?
I would not advise flying during a Gout attack. My foot swoll to the size of a melon!
