epilepsy experience

  1. i am suffering from epilepsy for more than 9 years.According to my experience if I get a good night sleep and not awake suddenly in the middle of the night or in the morning I am fine. I only get fits if I suddenly awake from sleep or stay awake without sleeping in the night. Even if I wanted to go to the toilet in the middle of the night I first get up and sit for a while until I am settled. Then it is ok.

Also there is another very important thing, I must have my meals properly if I stay in hunger then I feel a little bit dizzy.

i am taking lamotrigine 150mg tablets twice a day and now i am two months pregnant. Please let me know if my pregnancy will be effected due to taking this tablet.

i sometimes get a slight shivering in the beginning of my night sleep. Why is it?

  2. Fathima, the manufacturer's leaflet/insert in the lamotrogine pack will enlighten you re: taking this medication while pregnant. As will your GP, and your pharmacist. It's extremely important that you find out for certain, from a [u:ed8f998b19][b:ed8f998b19]professional. [/b:ed8f998b19][/u:ed8f998b19]

  3. Fathima, here's a helpful link regarding Lamotrigine. http://www.patient.co.uk/showdoc/30002576/

  4. Hello Fathima

I have been on lamotrigine 100mg twice daily for over 7 years now. I have been fit free for over 5 of them, touch wood hope it stays like that.

When i was diganoised i asked the question about pregnancy and birth, the consultant and i have to add my GP assured me that all would be well. The only thing is that the birth would have to be monitored a lot more than normal women. The only other thing is that to take folic acid, as the tablets can take out this.

I hope the pregnancy is going well and all the best for the future. Your symptons are very much like mine, have to ensure good nights sleep and eating at proper times.

    All the best Victoria

  5. Hi, I have had seizures for approximately 3 years, I have only experienced nocturnal seizures (around one every 6 months). I have recently seen a consultant who recommended that I take Lamotrigine which is apparently 80% effective in preventing seizures however, because my seizures are fairly uncommon he said it is up to me whether I would like to start taking the medication. I also experience meal time related migraines and wondered if going on lamotrigine would stop these?

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!
