Association with a cold?

   :?: I am not sure if I have trigeminal neuralgia yet or teeth trouble - just very bad pain in the cheek and jaw. Today an X ray did not show up any problems with abcess in the area however so teeth looks less likely maybe.

   I have had a bad head cold and wonder if that has set it off - has anyone else had this as an associated factor? Similarly, I am also suffering (in a way that seems connected) with bad oesphagitis (sensitive/inflamed oesphagus). I don't know if this is related to the neuralgia or just the cocktail of drugs I have been given to help deal with it (currently penicillin and pain killers). I seemed to develop the neuralgia very quickly - prompted by bending down to pick gooseberries (!). Again, does anyone else find that bending down predisposes to problems?

   Currently it's all very unpleasant. Answers gratefully received! . Thanks.

   :cry: Hi, i am experiencing the same. i had terrible pain, went to the doctor and has said that I might have neralgia. He said that my nose was bunged up, and the pressure in my ear was very low. So he has put me on painkillers, (after asking for them) and has said I should use a nasal spray for two weeks. Then I should come backif I am still experincing pain. I have looked up the symptoms as I was not sure what neralgia was. I cannot believe, how many people are suffering like I am.

   I have reduced the painkillers to twice a day, as I was getting constipated. So far the pain is at bay.(whilst being drugged up)

   I found that I could do nothing in the house what soever, bending down, cleaning the floor. Even reading a book all triggered an attack. Pain was excruciating tears would readily fall.

   Even going to bed was a night mare.As laying down seems to make it worse.

   I have not been properly diagnosed with it yet.I am praying this is some sort of sinus problem. :roll:

   I was also treated for sinus problems after a visit to the dentist cleared any signs of tooth decay. This lasted for about a year.

   When my attack is realy bad and for a long time, i take 2 codine tablets and i perch myself in an upright position on the sofa. I find that it does not matter what position you try and sleep in, the pain does not ease off... the best thing to do is get prescribed medication from the doctor that you can use that will send you to sleep.

   If you are asleep the pain goes. Its getting to sleep that is the problem.

   I've just developed what seems to be the same condition which was apparently triggered by a cold. I phoned NHS Direct because of not being sure if it was to do with my teeth or not, and after some discussion with a very helpful Nurse Practitioner (who also referred me to this site) we agreed that this was probably what I had.

   Eating, drinking or trying to clean my bottom teeth with an unwarmed toothbrush, can be agony, although the pain comes and goes when eating and it's almost impossible to know if and when it will hit. The only thing that eases an attack is taking a mouthful of luke warm water; but if the temperature is slightly too hot or cold (especially cold) it triggers rather than soothes the pain.

   Apparently the neuralgia is set off by a blood vessel pressing on a nerve. Maybe the pressure of swollen glands or coughing a lot set it off?

   I often get sinus-ache at the start of a cold, which soon passes, but there are no sinuses where the pain is, in the bottom jaw, and the sudden onset seems to rule out ordinary toothache.

   i had a head cold for few days , then thought i had developed sensitive teeth so went along to dentist said my teeth were fine , so maybe sinus trouble , the pain began to get worse and was very painful so went to my gp he said cud be neuralga , i cant eat anything hot as it starts a throbbing in my teeth,,

   was so painful made me cry dr gave me co codamol and that helped with the pain, iam just wondering if it ever gets better ??? never suffered pain like it , its in my top teeth,
