Advice please

  1. Thanks Dale ...... I'm going around singing 'Sledge-Hammer' now ......

Not sure it was by Peter Gabriel though :?:

  2. Good luck for tomorrow Kristal, it is a great idea if your husband goes with you.

  3. I am depressed

Just spent an hour with my doctor and guess what he said ..... I am depressed sad

I tried really hard to be prepared, I presented him with a list of ME symptoms and told him that it described me to a tee and explained how symptoms had got progressively worse over the couple of years he has been seeing me (even though I have already told him that before) and he just kept nodding and telling me that I am depressed sad

Even my hubby chipped in when he could see that I wasn't getting anywhere but it seems I have one of those doctors who doesn't really [i:fadb819067]get[/i:fadb819067] ME and just thinks it is a vague list of problems that are all caused by, guess what ..... depression, grrrrrrr.

I explained my concerns about the aches & pains and in particular the extreme dental pain I now get when having any treatment and once again he nodded sweetly and explained that it was caused by depression

:bleep: :bleep: :bleep: :bleep: :bleep: :bleep:

His parting shot was to remind me that he had other patients waiting to see him and suggest I go back in 2 weeks time to discuss whether I want to pursue the ME route or accept that I am depressed

Sorry, think I should have used the Punchbag thread for this.

    Phew, I am exhausted now.

Hope you are all having a good day

    Kristal

    xx

  4. Sorry you had such a bad time at the doctors.   Is there a different doctor in the practice you could see? If not is there another practice near by you could change too? It is so :bleep: annoying but unfortunaly is is a mountain many suffers have to face.

  5. Kristal I feel so angry for you, I want to come and shake your GP by the shoulders - how patronising he is. :steam:

This is what I had to put up with for 2 and a half years and why I decided to pay for a consultation at the National ME Centre.

When I went to the NMEC Dr Mitchell completed a questionnaire for depression. If you are depressed you will score 11 or more depending on the severity and I scored 7. He wrote to my GP in no uncertain terms and advised all medication for depresion to be stopped as it was like a Band Aid that had lost its sticky - useless.

You will get help, but this GP is wasting such a lot of time when you could be getting treatment. Please consider getting another opinion.

  6. Can I suggest you contact the M.E. Association for help?

  7. oh kristal definitely change doctors - he's just not getting it, is he?

    Trees x

  8. He'll get it if I see him - right on the nose :grrr:

  9. haha! let's all go round and give him a piece of our collective mind. we could pretend he's our punch bag forum!

kristal, tell you GP to watch out - you're sending the girl round :grrr:

    Trees x

  10. oh i just messed up my own punch line!

that was supposed to be YOU'RE sending the GIRLS round.

oh dear. that's exactly what im like telling jokes in real life

  11. I am so lucky with my Dr John. He's only about as old as my son (so I won't see him for girly things  ) but he's great with other stuff. He always asks me what i think.

Thanks Dr John, you are a star :doctor:

  12. Kristal, I am absolutely fuming :steam: so I can't begin to feel how you do

I find it hard to believe that having listened to you your GP is still maintaining you are depressed  How on earth does depression have anything to do with severe dental pain for goodness sake, for a start

Right then gang .... READY FOR ACTION :grrr:

Instead of a coach trip to Dales's shopmobility, we're all going to join force and go down to the West Country and sort out that so called GP :doctor:

We'll teach him a thing or two!! We will beat him to a pulp with our ME bibles ...... that'll learn him

NO-ONE MESSES WITH US

I feel so upset for you Kristal .. have only just got in from a meeting and I'm still sitting here with my coat on :steam:

We will find a way of helping you somehow

    Katie xx :cuddle:

  13. Kristal, that is just not good enough. Just :bleep: ing tell him you are not depressed and can you have a second opinion

That makes me so angry

  14. Kristal, do you know of any local ME support group .... there must be one in your area ..... I am sure they would be able to advise you.

You absolutely must find a GP who is able to distinguish ME from a state of chronic depression ..... your's is obviously incapable of doing so by the sound of things

We won't give up on this one until you get the right diagnosis :ok:

    Katie xx

  15. Kirstal contact the m.e association on their web site there is information of all support groups. I go to mine and find it very useful.

  16. i'm with katie - i'll pick everyone up in the new chariot and we'll go and give him what for :bus:

seriously though kristal, i think you need to change doctor which you are more than entitled to do.

i am really lucky with my GP, especially after hearing that not all doctors are as sympathetic to CFS, and considering i have a history of mild depression. the first doctor i saw definitely thought it was just depressed and told me to eat more tomatos :tomato:

  17. Morning

Sorry I didn't reply to all your lovely messages yesterday but I was depressed   .... I suppose the doctor was right really because if I wasn't depressed when I went in to see him I certainly was by the time I came out

Thank you all for the fantastic messages of support, I have had a good old cry plus a good giggle at the thought of you wonderful bunch of people beating up my GP with your handbags   Do you think we could borrow a few mobility scooters to round him up with first because he is quite young so I suspect he can be a bit nippy

Not that I want you to get the impression that I have been wasting much time or energy plotting revenge on him of course :x

I don't think my hubby could understand why I was so nervous about the meeting but after witnessing it first hand even he is flabbergated at the absolute denial of ME or any associated illnesses and he even spent time last night plotting plans of contacting other professionals for help .... I suppose he (hubby) can't be all bad then.

Anyway I feel pretty pooped today, plus I have a dentist appointment later sad so I don't know how much I will get done but I have the idea that I could contact the local ME support group and chat to them about their GP's to try and find a more sympathtic one plus of course following up on your other suggestions.

Thanks again everyone, you really are a unique bunch of people and you somehow always manage to make me smile :D :D :D

This is what you all are

I hope today brings good things for you all

    Kristal

    xx

  18. Hi Kristal

So pleased that we were able to make you smile a little after such a negative GP visit. I was really surprised to hear he is a youngster ..... I expected some old fuddy duddy well overdue for retirement and totally set in this ways  I just find it hard to believe that any youngish GP would be in complete denial of ME.

But don't you worry ..... we can still see him off good and proper!

Thank goodness your husband did go with you .... he can now see first hand what you have been up against.

Good luck with his search for help.

    Take care

    Katie xx

  19. Kristal, Sorry your GP is a :bleep: He seems to think you cant accept being depressed somehow :? He needs educating

I can provide the scooters, just tell me when yoy want to go and sort him out :bus:

At least your spirit is intact and you have got us :P (Is that a good thing :nahnah: though) !

It makes me realise how lucky I am with my Dr. Jenny :doctor: :cupid: She is a star and never makes me feel like I am wasting her time. She says she admires me for being so strong, even though I always think I am a wreck  Thanx Jenny :ok:

    Dale xxx

  20. Dr Jenny sounds like my Dr John. He says I can always go for a chat and to book a double appointment so I don't have to rush. I have one next Tuesday.

    Thanks Dr John x
