  1. About 4 months ago or thereabouts I caught a bad cough/cold type sickness off of someone who thought that covering their mouth whilst coughing was unnecessary. (Maybe when no-one's around it may not be that necessary, but when there are people directly in front of you, you should cover your mouth to stop your cough or cold travelling to those in close proximity to you.) So I had a bad case of whatever that person had and when I got better I was still 'swallowing' occasionally thinking that it was the 'end part' of that sickness and that I'd get better soon. The unusual 'swallowing' seemed to go on for several weeks but I didn't take it that seriously as I thought it I was still getting over that 'sickness' I had. Well about 2 or 3 weeks ago the swallowing got more noticeable and I began to wonder - maybe I'm not really swallowing anything - maybe I'm reacting to something that's somehow 'growing' on my throat. That's when I began to get concerned. I knew I couldn't ignore it any longer and went to the doctor who suggested some type of penicilin medicine to take and this doctor said that it was a common problem having the feeling of 'something stuck in your throat' after a cold. I wasn't sure if I was allergic to penicilin so the doctor prescribed some other pills for me - there were 5 of them and the doctor said that most people get over this after taking the pills. But the pills haven't stopped it. The doctor has given me the name of a throat specialist to see but reading up on all of the information of people's experiences with a throat specialist - in regards to this specific problem, not alot of people seemed to have been helped and I've read that people can have this feeling as if something is stuck in your throat for years. So now I'm going to email my mother and ask her if I am allergic to penicilin, and if I'm not, I'll be going back to that doctor to get a prescription for that penicilin I think based medicine. Also, in the last so many weeks, I've had a bit of a persistent dry cough which I don't think have been helping matters so I bought some dry cough medicine. Just to let everyone know, when I go to sleep, the problem actually seems to clear up and I don't notice any feeling of anything stuck in my throat and even in the morning I think for a while it seems I don't feel anything - like it's all better (I know there are times when I feel that it's all cleared up, just can't remember at what specific times of the day they are) but then in the middle of the day and now in the afternoon and it will continue through til the evening, I feel like there's something stuck in my throat again. It's not painful to me but it is a worry. Yes, I eat fast, but that's nothing new. I'm not the healthiest eater but that's nothing new either. I got the impression this is a residual side effect from that initial cough/cold I got months ago, it didn't quite seem to clear up totally. I read somewhere on one web site about some 'flap' forming on the throat due to something in regards to 'scarring' from perhaps some reflux? - The flap sounds like a plausible theory as to what's making me feel like I always have something stuck in my throat. If I understand correctly, some people have had this for months and even years so it's possible to have this for a length of time and not end up choking to death or suffocating from it - that's nice to know. Even now I feel like something very small is 'moving' around inside of whatever is on my throat.

  2. Hi I was reading your message and felt I had to reply. I too had the same intial problems as yourself..caught a cold at school...then this developed into breathing problems that went to sickness. I spent 5 weeks in hospital where few testes were done. I was convinced it was a hiatus hernia only to be discharged with 'phlegm'. I have since been off work 3 months with something moving in my throat. I have frequent choking attacks and many foods that I love I now cannot eat. My GP diagnosed me a few weeks ago with GORD (UK term). It came as a huge shock since I am a teacher adn rely on my voice. I have been hoarse for 3 months and it shows little progress. It is reassuring to know that sites like this exist where you cna share the symptoms and read others experiences. I hope you recover soon.:D

  3. I have had similar problems. I caught a cold months ago that has never gone away. I would feel sometimes like something was crawling up my throat and I would try to let it reach the top but inevitably I would swallow and that would be that. Then I started having trouble breathing, can't seem to get a deep breath and it's noisy. So noisy, that my coworkers and my boss insisted I go see a doctor about my breathing. Then I started losing weight. I went to my primary care doctor and was prescribed 10 days of antibiotics, a 48 pak of prednisone, and an albuterol inhaler, none of which did any good. The doctor said she would give me a referral for an ENT but has yet to do so (over a month later) and I felt I couldn't wait any longer. I feel like I am suffocating so I skipped my primary care doctor and made an appointment with a Pulmonologist myself, who did a spirometer test and said the test tells him I have an upper airway obstruction. He then sent me right over to an ENT the same day, who stuck a tube down my throat and said he thinks he sees scarring that may be from acid reflux. (I've had reflux every once in awhile but I didn't think it was anything that would have caused scarring). The ENT then sent me for blood work and now they have scheduled my CT Scan for the day after tomorrow. After the CT scan, I am to ask for copies of the films, sign them out and take them directly to the ENT who will discuss treatment options with me at that time. While I hope that scarring is all it is, I can't help but worry they will find something else, but we will see. Anyway, the point is, don't wait to get help. I waited far too long. I even had friends that had convinced me it was allergies or I was so stressed I was having anxiety attacks...all of which were untrue. So please don't wait, push the issue. If one doctor doesn't do something then go to another one until they at least run the proper tests to find out what's going on.
