5 weeks in - Labyrithitis

  1. was seen by a ENT specialist who was very understanding and carried out various tests. He confirmed I had labs and should not have had antibiotics! He prescribed me serc tablets that are working and gave me exercises to do. I'm now 6 weeks on and feeling much better. I am slowly on my way to recovery :-) there is a light at the end of the tunnel.. I am still tired and have anxiety, I an just hoping this goes as time goes on!

  2. Hi, I have had labs for 5-6 weeks now, it is the worst illness that I have ever experienced. Prior to having this I was very active and sociable enjoying a 'normal' life! Not any more... Labs hit me out of the blue, I'd been suffering from a viral infection then the dizzyness started and extreme nausea. The only thing to stop it was to lie down on my side, any head movement would cause the room to move and i would vomit! I went to the hospital who confirmed I had Labyrinthitis and gave me prochlorperazine tabs to ease the symptoms. 5 days later I visited emergency doctor due to feeling worse and suffering from anxiety and panic. I was then told I had a middle ear infection and was given a course of antibiotics! They seemed to help for the first 2-3days I was not feeling as tired. The symptoms of nausea and like the world was not real continued, I was no longer feeling dizzy however at times felt motion sickness! 4 weeks in and I could not eat, drink or leave the house. I was very low in mood and felt I was never going to get my life back and be able to work. Another visit to the hospital, this time I was seen by a ENT specialistwas seen by a ENT specialist who was very understanding and carried out various tests. 3. I have just got an ENT referral, I am new to vertigo whether it is labrynthitis/vestibulitis - hope it doesn't take to many dizzy weeks to see someone with specialist knowledge. I am prescribed antihistamines for allergies, therefore, I cannot take a histamine, such as serc. It does limit options. So far, I had Stemetil, which efficiently dealt with the nausea that was due to the vertigo, but it left me 'swimming' in all other respects.

Most recently, I had Stugeron prescribed, (Cinnarizine). This medication helped with some re-balancing. I did feel a bit light-headed and woke in the mornings with a core headache. The headache is recorded as a possible side-effect. I did find I could function in many respects, and I was able to read a book. After doubling the dose, on medical advice, I careered backwards in to the dizzy vortex. I took myself off the tablets. I may well return to the original dosage.

I have the conundrum though, of deciding how to handle my daily allergy needs. No-one seems quite sure what to advise.
