  1. Hi Guys i have recently been suffering from depression ever since an illness i got last summer. My doctor put me on 20mg citalopram which seemed to work for some time and i gradually got better towards christmas however after christmas i took a real down turn and he upped my dosage to 40mg which made very little difference. I went to see him last week and he switched me to venlafaxine which i didnt expect at the time and it caught me out a little. I have been on venlafaxine for a week now and the doctor did say that i would suffer negative days while my citalopram wore off and my venlafaxine kicked in. However the negative days are a lot worse than i expected with me struggling to do anything and wanting to cry all the time and not really relaxing unitil i have done. Has anyone else had similar experiences? and any positive replies about venlafaxine would be welcome as im hearing a lot of negative stuff about it. Cheers

  2. hi there

venlafaxine is a snri antidepessant so it in a different group to citalopram but at 75mg it works in the same way but at 150mg it works different

i had a very bad depression last year and had to have 6 sessions of ect but i think that and the venlafaxine got me back from a very dark place so i am all for it and it did sort me out in the end but it do take a time to work but with all theses drug some people they work wonders for and others they will make the depression worse but give them go and i really hope you get better soon

ps take very thing your dr offer cbt is really good as i found it not going to be just the drugs make you better

    cheers
