Patient Access

The convenient way to book GP appointments online

Patient Access is only available to patients who are registered with a participating Patient Access practice. To find out if your practice offers internet appointment booking, please ask at your local surgery.

Using Patient Access, you can now view, book and cancel appointments at your local GP surgery from home, work or on the move - wherever you can connect to the internet. What's more, because Patient Access is a 24 hour online service - you can do this in your own time, day or night. By the end of 2005 some 400 surgeries were offering the service.

Plus, Patient Access is not just for booking GP appointments - the popularity of online appointment booking has led to more online features being added, including:

  • Repeat prescription ordering
  • Change of address
  • New patient pre-registration
  • Secure message facility

Please note: your local practice may not offer every Patient Access feature. Ask at your surgery to find out which are available to you.

Secure personal information

All information that is sent to your surgery via Patient Access is secure. Your personal details are encrypted and protected using the highest standard internet security, so it cannot be intercepted. Only you and your GP surgery are able to see this information.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the service not available?

Your doctor's practice did not reply to your login request. This can happen if there is a network problem, which is temporary, or if the practice computer system is not running.

All practice systems close for a short period every night for housekeeping, if you see this message at night this is the most likely cause of the problem, and normal service will be resumed as soon as all the essential work is complete. The exact time and duration of the nightly work varies from practice to practice, most practices can finish housekeeping in around two hours.

If you see this message during the day and it persists for more than an hour please contact your practice. If they cannot resolve the issue they will contact the Access team.

Why doesn't my sign-in work?

All of the sign-in information is cAsE sEnSiTiVe. So it may be that your CAPS LOCK key is set incorrectly. If you still can't sign in we may be experiencing technical problems so please try again later. If you've done this and still cannot sign-in contact your practice and they will investigate further.

How do I change my password?

If you want to change your password please contact your surgery.
